The Published Works: 1997-2022 by Marc Sirinsky

“This year marks the 25th anniversary of my first published images. To celebrate, I’ve put together a softcover book that includes a compendium of works published between 1997-2022. Alternative process, photo-based mixed media, straight photography, analog, digital, works made when I was in art school– it’s all there…along with notable reviews, essays and other goodies. I’ve partnered with a great small press to produce the book, and I’m thrilled with the results!” Marc Sirinsky

In the interest of full disclosure: I became friends with Marc Sirinsky while we both worked as photo researchers for the same company back in 2001. We experienced 9/11 in separate ways at the same job on the same day. We are both photographers, both have continued working in publishing, and enjoy instigating mischief. Over twenty years later, it’s no wonder we stayed in touch.

Apart from our connection of mutual misery in the publishing world – Marc has always presented himself as an accomplished artist, and it’s no wonder he is still making work; innovating, and putting himself out there – long after many people I knew in art school have thrown in the towel. He has the grit and determination worthy of celebrating 25 years of making and publishing photographic work. This book includes text by myself, Dr. Collier Brown, Jan Mercker, and a sage foreword by Kevin Tully, Gallery Director at A Smith Gallery – wherein Kevin name checks Einstein, Marc and Amanda Smith in the same paragraph. Most of us should be so lucky.

I’ve been able to share Marc’s work in various ways over the years, and I’ll stand by my own testament to Marc’s work… His work connects us all to one another in some way… our shared triumphs, fears and failures are reflected in his work to some extent… you don’t need to be born at a certain time, or have experienced the same loss or love or struggles, you need only look, to see, and listen to your heart. That’s where the connection begins.

About
Marc Sirinsky has been actively photographing since the age of 8 – when he borrowed his aunt’s Nikon FE2 during a trip to the zoo…and then refused to give it back. He went on to graduate with honors from the University of Michigan School of Art and Design in 1997, where he found his passion for alternative process photography. Since then his work has been included in over 60 juried, solo and group exhibitions; and has appeared in leading publications like F-Stop Magazine, The Hand Magazine, and Photographer’s Forum.
