Press Release from Schilt Publishing & Gallery, 12 December, 2022: We are honored to become the worldwide distributor of the two existing and future publications of The Information Front.

The Information Front is an informal collective that believes in the power of photography to invoke change through visibility. Using the platform of affordable publication, The Information Front positions the documentation of the war through those who are most vulnerable: Ukrainian photographers themselves.

This newspaper functions as a platform to support their important work and, through dissemination and circulation, to maintain visibility of the war.

All profit from the sales of The Information Front will go to the Ukrainian organization Depth of the Arts Fund, which supports the necessary work of independent media in Ukraine by directly funding the photographers themselves.

Volume 1. Ukrainian Photographers Witness War in Ukraine

The Information Front, Volume #1 believes that photography, especially photojournalism, plays a crucial role in learning about the violence inflicted and acts as a countermeasure to false truths and propaganda spreading.

The photographs in this first volume of The Information Front cover the first two months of the war, with the first dated 12 February, 2022. Featuring text by Ukrainian poet, author, and political activist Serhiy Zhadan.

The Information Front is organized by: Kateryna Radchenko, Christopher Nunn, and Donald Weber; design by –SYB—. Lithography by Sebastiaan Hanekroot, Colour & Books. Supported by Free Press Unlimited through its ‘Media Lifeline Ukraine’ and ‘Reporters Respond’ initiatives, and Pictoright. Printed with the support of Newspaper Club.

Volume 2. Ukraine – The Path to Freedom

Volume 2 presents the wealth of Ukrainian photography over the course of five decades. It begins in the 1970s, at the moment when Ukrainian visual art began to publicly express its own language, and concludes with the war that engulfs the country in the present.
The publication is a companion to the exhibition ‘Ukraine – The Path to Freedom’ hosted by Noorderlicht and pioneers an approach to photography from a Ukrainian historical perspective.
